Small opening surrounded on three sides by Quercus wislizeni woodland. The plot has a relatively high cover of Poa (secunda) and many native forbs. The plot was chosen because the Poa (secunda) seems to occur repeatedly at the margins of Q. wislizeni woodland in the area. There are many stalks of last year's Holocarpha in the field where the plot is located.; The site was grazed until 1988 when grazing was removed. It is possible that the opening containing the plot was cleared but the high proportion of native grasses suggests otherwise.
